Egmont to publish new book in October 2016 to tie in with 90th anniversary.

Official Winnie the Pooh anthology sequel to roll out in 2016

Egmont Publishing is to publish an official anthology sequel in 2016 to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the publication of Winnie-the-Pooh – A. A. Milne’s first book about the nation’s best-loved bear.

Egmont has worked with the Pooh Properties Trust and the Shepard Trust and Stephanie Thwaites at Curtis Brown to carefully select four authors to pen the anthology, which will publish in October 2016 and be illustrated by Mark Burgess.

Sarah Bates, publishing director, Egmont Publishing UK, commented: “Winnie-the-Pooh remains the nation’s favourite children’s book, coming top of a poll commissioned by John Lewis and Barnardo’s, last year.

"The best-loved bear might be approaching 90 but he is also a digital pioneer, being the first ever eBook made available on the iBookstore when Apple first launched the iPad. And now, to celebrate 90 years of inspiring children to read, we are delighted to be publishing new stories about Christopher Robin and Winnie-the-Pooh’s adventures by some outstanding writers with a real understanding for A. A. Milne’s characters and world.”

Stephanie Thwaites, literary agent at Curtis Brown Group, added: “We have taken a lot of time and care over this project and we’re thrilled to have found the right voices to bring A.A. Milne & E.H. Shepard’s characters back to life. There are plenty of exciting plans in place leading up to the 90th Anniversary next year and beyond – so watch this space.”

The title and authors for this anthology will be revealed closer to publication.

The anthology follows on from the commercial and critical success of Return to the Hundred Acre Wood in 2009, which was the first authorised sequel to A. A. Milne’s stories. It published in 26 countries and has sold 67,000 copies in the UK, through Nielsen Book Scan.

The first Winnie-the-Pooh book, simply named Winnie-the-Pooh, was published in October 1926.
