Penguin Ventures is partnering once again with The Royal Mint to launch a commemorative 50 pence piece to celebrate 40 years of Raymond Briggs’ original picture book, The Snowman.
Featuring both The Snowman and James in the iconic flying scene, the coin will be available in both coloured silver proof and uncirculated editions.
The extension of the partnership with The Royal Mint follows the success of a series of character coins launched in 2016 to celebrate 150 years of Beatrix Potter.
Thomas Merrington, creative director at Penguin Ventures, said: “It was a key ambition for us to work with The Royal Mint once again for the Snowman’s 40 anniversary.
“He appeals to such a wide audience from grandparents to children alike and these beautiful coins will make perfect keepsakes for every fan of The Snowman.”
Nicola Howell, director of consumer coin at The Royal Mint, added: “We are thrilled to be working with Penguin Ventures again and are delighted to be a part of the 40 anniversary celebrations of Raymond Briggs; book The Snowman.
“Over the next few years, the Beatrix Potter collections have proved to be incredibly popular with our collectors and we believe the iconic flying scene of The Snowman and James captured on a commemorative 50 pence coin will be equally well treasured by children and adults alike.”
This is just part of an on going roster of 40 anniversary celebrations for The Snowman this year, joining activities such as a special edition anniversary range of gifts like books, clothing, toys and confectionery.
A nationwide programme of events including orchestral and theatrical performances, special film screenings, original art exhibition and immersive experiences will guarantee families the chance to celebrate The Snowman this year.
