Crunchyroll taps licensing expert John Leonhardt as head of consumer products

Crunchyroll, the leading destination for anime and manga has named John Leonhardt as its new head of consumer products.

In his new role, Leonhardt will be responsible for leading the consumer products team and is building merchandising programmes around the anime content Crunchyroll delivers to its fans.

Prior to joining the team, Leonhardt led Dimensional Branding Group’s licensing and brand extension practice on behalf of its clients and brings in over 20 years of experience managing the IP portfolios of leading brands, games companies, publishers, celebrities and inventors.

He has worked with brands such as Yahoo, eBay, Sony Playstation , Sega, Temple Run, Angry Birds, John Wayne, Talking Tom and Highlights for Children among others.

He now joins Crunchyroll at a pivotal time for the firm. Already it has over 45 million registered users and over two million subscribers across the globe. It houses the world’s largest anime collection with more than 1,000 titles and over 30,000 episodes of content.
