Start Licensing’s Ian Downes, with the help of Warner’s Paul Bufton and Sanrio’s Simon Gresswell, have raised over £6,400 for the UK charity Mind, having undertaken a 24 hour hike across Cornwall.

The trio embarked on epic fundraising Hike For Cal mission to raise money for the mental health charity organisation as part of an event that altogether totalled over £35,000.

Downes, Bufton and Gresswell received an outpouring of support from industry friends as they undertook the challenge to walk non-stop, 40 miles across Cornwall over the weekend. The three surpassed their original fundraising goal of £5000.

The walk was completed in memory of Ian Downes’ son, Calum, who passed away in 2015 aged 19. The money raised will go to Mind, a charity that provides care and help for those with mental health issues.

In a tweet detailing the walk as an “emotional but rewarding way to remember Calum,” Downes, alongside Bufton and Gresswell, have thanked all those who donated for their support.

In the lead up to the Hike, Downes said: “Calum was much loved by his family and wide circle of friends at home and at University and his death was a great shock to us. Whilst everyone is still struggling to understand why Calum left us, his friends and family want to remember him in a positive way and try to nurture their love for him by fundraising in his memory.

“Myself and Simon completed the Hike last year and are delighted that Paul is joining us this year. We hope our participation will help raise valuable funds while shining a light on mental health issues and personal well-being.

“Licensing is a close-knit community but you never know what challenges people are facing.”
