PopCap launches new Plants vs Zombies Facebook game

PopCap Games has announced the limited, regional launch of its Plants vs Zombies Adventures beta.

It’s the first social/Facebook adaptation of PopCap’s popular app game.

A division of Electronic Arts Inc, PopCap has started testing the new game in a closed beta release targeted to a limited audience of Facebook users.

The adaptation is set to become widely available later this spring.

Sequel Plants vs Zombies 2 will launch in early summer.

"Plants vs. Zombies Adventures is a highly accessible, zombie-zapping adaptation of the original game designed specifically for Facebook," said Curt Bererton, head of PopCap’s San Francisco studio.

"The game not only offers up exclusive new plants and zombies along with old favourites, it features all-new forms of zombie combat that will open PvZ to a whole new world.

"We like to think we’re creating a brand new twist on the classic Plants vs Zombies that is the most social, shareable and expansive Plants vs Zombies experience ever."

Pirates vs Zombies Adventures will present players with the chance to thwart Zombies in a variety of settings.

Alongside enabling players to send zombies to their Facebook friends, the game will also offer new zombie and plant types, new ways of obtaining, cultivating and deploying plant defences.
