Popeye steps into footwear with Havaianas collaboration

Classic animated character Popeye is taking new steps into footwear thanks to a partnership with the flip-flop company Havaianas.

The muscle-clad sailor man, Olive Oyl and Bluto all feature on the new line of flip-flops that has already found success in Havaianas stores across Brazil.

The launch formed part of the territory’s own Valentine’s Day, which takes place on June 12th in Brazil.

The special collection includes three styles, one for women and two others in unisex sizes and following the early success of the line, the Popeye Havaianas will now roll out globally.

“We are so pleased that Havaianas is our newest brand collaboration for Popeye,” said Cathleen Titus, vice president of international licensing at King Features, owners of the Popeye brand.

“These two brands communicate an ideal combination of strength, humour and fun. What better way to celebrate summer.”

The deal for the collaboration was brokered by BR Licensing, the Brazilian agent for King Features.
