Premiership Rugby teams with VirtTrade for SCRUM digital trading cards

Premiership Rugby has teamed with digital trading card producer VirtTrade to develop a new collection for the 2015/15 season.

Called SCRUM, the new digital line of trading cards will feature all the players from each of the 12 Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs.

The new line marks the first time rugby trading cards have made the leap to the digital platform.

Containing more than 2000 individual cards, the range – available on both iOS and android – will feature an assortment of different card sets, bios, social feeds, action highlights and specials.

The new development will also include a selection of cards that continually update game-time statistics for each round of Aviva Premiership Rugby throughout the season, as well as feature full season stats for each player.

Dominic Hayes, commercial director, Premiership Rugby, said: “we are delighted to partner with VirtTrade as one of the first major sports to take advantage of the technology, which offers a platform allowing fans from all clubs to participate in this collection.

“We have been especially impressed by the vision of the company and the multitude of benefits its platform will bring to Premiership Rugby, the clubs and the fans in terms of new ways to meaningfully engage one another.”

Ross Walker, chief commercial officer, VirtTrade, added: “we are very pleased to have signed with Premiership Rugby, who from the outset understood the commercial capabilities the technology brings and the importance we place on delivering a first rate fan engagement platform.”
