Licensing agent Kirsty Guthrie will bring card and stationery characters to other categories.

Rachel Ellen Designs enters licensing sector

Cards and stationery specialist Rachel Ellen Designs has moved into the licensing industry.

The company, founded in 1997, reached an agreement with licensing agent Kirsty Guthrie of KJG Ltd.

Rachel Ellen Designs founder Rachel Church started out making greeting cards at her kitchen table and her Nottingham-based firm has since grown to employ 30 staff.

The firm produces a range of cards and stationery featuring Church’s quirky, hand-painted characters.

The Rachel Ellen children’s brand has also won a number of international awards over the years, including Henries Best Cute Range 2006, Best Children’s Range 2008 and Best Cute Range 2011.

A select number of High Street multiples, small chains, department stores and independents stock the card and stationery products. They are stocked in 25 territories and have enjoyed particular success in Japan.

“We have been thinking about licensing for some time now but didn’t have the necessary skills in-house to make it happen, so having Kirsty on board is great news for us,” said Church.

“It’s obvious that she loves what we do and that, coupled with her innate understanding of the licensing sector and range of contacts, means we are in very capable hands."

Guthrie added: “I am very excited to be teaming up with Rachel and her team, as there is a fantastic selection of designs to work with that have huge licensing potential and can work across any number of categories.

“We are already in talks with a range of potential partners and are hoping to make initial deal announcements very soon.”
