Latest data from TNS has seen Asda become the UK's largest clothing retailer.
The supermarket chain leapfrogged Marks & Spencer to take a 10.1 per cent market share by volume.
Value retailer Primark was second the list, with a 9.9 per cent share, followed by M&S with 9.8 per cent.
TNS based the findings on figures for the 12 weeks to August 15th.
Anthony Thompson, MD of Asda's George clothing range, was quoted last week saying that the supermarket's aim had been to hit the number one spot by 2011, meaning it is 18 months ahead of schedule.
