Merchantwise honours May Gibbs' Gumnut Babies with new campaign

Australian licensing and marketing agency, Merchantwise, is celebrating 100 years of May Gibbs’ first book Gumnut Babies, with a new campaign program.

The campaign boasts a collaboration with digital platform Story Box Library, which will bring characters to life via an interactive experience.

For May Gibbs collectors, Perth Mint is marking the celebration with a limited mintage releasing a 100th anniversary Gumnut Babies 1oz silver proof coin and books set.

Elsewhere, Australia Post has launched a Gumnut Babies stamp pack, stamp and coin to mark the centenary.

“2016 marks 100 years of May Gibbs’ first literary work Gumnut Babies, which became an instant success and paved the way for her to become one of Australia’s best loved classic children’s book authors and illustrators,” said, Rosalie May, brand manager of May Gibbs at Merchantwise.

“Throughout the year we will continue to work with our partners and with some of Australia’s most favourite brands on exciting 100 years initiatives in the lifestyle, confectionary and apparel categories.”

Publisher Scholastic has also released Tales From the Gum Tree in hardback and paperback for fans.

May Gibbs’ classic Snugglepot and Cuddlepie will also come to life on stage for children five to ten years and their families, when the new adaptation plays at 40 venues across Australia as part of a national tour following its 2015 Sydney Opera House premiere.
