Revealing its latest figures today, WH Smith has said that it is remaining cautious about the consumer environment and anticipates competitive trading in its markets over the Christmas period.
Total group sales in the first ten weeks of the financial year (from September 1st to November 7th) were down one per cent compared to the same period last year.
High Street like for likes fell four per cent in the period, in line with the firm's expectations. Travel like for likes, meanwhile, dropped by two per cent.
The company said it will continue to focus on rebalancing the mix of the business towards its core categories.
