Tetley Tea branches out into the food aisle

Golden Goose strikes first licensing deal for brand for Tea Folk Scones.

The first licensing deal in the Tetley Tea programme has been secured.

A range of Tea Folk Scones are now available in Asda. Baked under licence by bakers Haywood & Padgett, the packs of four fruit scones will retail for around £1.29.

In addition to the scones, Tetley has plans to launch a range of other edible products including biscuits. The aim is to initially target the convenience sector before seeking broader distribution to major multiples.

"This is all about developing Tetley Tea Folk products that are the perfect accompaniment to enjoying, making or thinking about Tetley Tea," said Anand Gandesha, marketing manager for Tetley. "It is the first time that we have leverage the strength of the Tetley Tea Folk in this way and it will be exciting to see how it develops."

Golden Goose account director Antonia Habdank-Toczyska added: "We see a real opportunity for the Tetley Tea Fold and have a number of product launches lined up for the year ahead. Scones and biscuits have a natural fit with tea, so could quite possibly have a knock on effect for tea sales."
