Wizard of Oz takes over Harrods

Giant witch feet unveiled as classic brand transforms luxury store into Emerald City for Christmas.

Warner Bros has teamed up with Harrods to theme the luxury department store with its Wizard of Oz brand this Christmas.

On December 1st, the cast of West End musical Wicked will unveil a pair of giant witch feet sticking out from underneath the store to kick off the activity.

Harrods will be transformed into a magical Emerald City for Christmas. From the Christmas Parade through to the store's lights and the range of Wizard of Oz consumer products, all of Harrods' 2009 festivities have been inspired by iconic moments from the film, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.

The activities will all be raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

The in-store push is the latest in a raft of activity from WBCP, following the release of The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Sing-Slong Edition at the beginning of November.

The Ruby Slipper Boudoir was launched by X Factor judge Dannii Minogue and Harrods' owner Mohamed Al Fayed in October, with shoppers able to buy limited edition slippers from a junior size four up to an adult size eight. The Boudoir also features slippers designed by Manolo Blanik and Gwen Stefani among others.

The shoes have totally sold out and there is a waiting list for the next delivery.

Minogue also turned on the Harrods Emerald Green Palace Christmas lights, while the store held a special Emerald Ball in early November in support of The Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Consumers can also buy a range of yellow and gold decorations which pay homage to the Yellow Brick Road, red ornaments symbolising the ruby slippers and glittery pieces replicating Somewhere Over the Rainbow from Harrods' Christmas World.
