Book based on 'Octopus's Garden' track will come with a CD featuring a new song.

Ringo Starr Beatles song made into children’s book

A Beatles song written by Ringo Starr is being turned into a children’s book, some 45 years after it was created.

‘Octopus’s Garden’ will be published as a picture book by Simon & Schuster and illustrated by Ben Cort, reports The Guardian.

The hardback picture book will include a CD featuring an unheard music track from Starr. It will be published in the UK on October 24th and in January 2014 in the US.

The book’s story sees five children embark on an underwater adventure in an octopus’ garden.

"It gives me great pleasure to collaborate with Ben Cort and Simon & Schuster for the further adventures of Octopus’s Garden," Starr said. "Peace and love."

Starr wrote the song in 1968 during a break from The Beatles, while he was on holiday in Sardinia. He was inspired by the captain of Peter Sellers’ yacht.

"He told me all about octopuses – how they go round the seabed and pick up stones and shiny objects and build gardens," Starr added. "I thought, ‘How fabulous’. Because at the time I just wanted to be under the sea too. I wanted to get out of it for a while."

Starr’s publisher, Ingrid Selberg at Simon & Schuster, commented: "[It’s a] perfect marriage of a truly child-friendly text, based on Ringo’s popular song, with illustrations that revel in the imaginative opportunities presented by the lyrics.

"This is a beautiful and funny book that children, parents and grandparents will love sharing."
