Rocket Licensing taps comic-book market with Valiant Entertainment

Rocket Licensing is tapping in to the comic book and graphic novel gold mine.

The independent licensing firm has been appointed by the entertainment company Valiant to manage the UK licensing of its portfolio of multimillion-selling titles including Bloodshot, Harbinger and Faith.

Founded in 1989 and relaunched in 2012, Valiant has built a strong slate of titles from a team of writers and artists that have shot to success in the comics industry, with a number of movies in production.

Rocket Licensing’s appointment follows a five-picture deal recently signed with Sony Pictures that will bring characters such as Bloodshot, a former soldier with powers of indestructibility, Harbinger, a group of teenage super-powered outcasts, and Faith, a comic-book-fan-turned-superhero, to the screen.

Valiant has already made an impact on the US licensing industry with partnerships in apparel, accessories, homeware, toys and games and video games.

Rocket has outlined its plans to focus on these categories in the first phase of licensing to cater to the strong demands from fans in the UK. The arrival of the movie slate is expected to propel the campaign to a larger audience and a wider selection of categories in the coming years.

Rob Wijeratna, join MD of Rocket Licensing, said: “We are delighted to be working with a major name in comics and graphic novels that has reinvented itself with stunning success for a new generation of comic fans.

“The success of Valiant’s slate of characters and its screen potential make it one of the most exciting licensing opportunities in the fast-growing area of comic-related media.”

Russ Brown, president of consumer products and promotions at Valiant, added: “We couldn’t be more pleased to add Rocket Licensing to our roster of international agents. Rocket is a proven entity in the market and glad they have the vision and insight to see the mutual growth opportunity.”
