Royal Mail is celebrating over 60 years of classic children’s TV with a special stamp programme.
The full set of stamps features 12 iconic characters including Andy Pander, Ivor the Engine, Dougal, Windy Miller, Mr Benn, Great Uncle Bulgaria, Bagpuss, Paddington Bear, Postman Pat, Bob the Builder, Peppa Pig and Shaun the Sheep.
This year is an appropriate time to launch the special set as 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of Bagpuss’ television debut and the 50th anniversary of The Magic Roundabout.
2014 will also welcome big screen adventures for Postman Pat and Paddington Bear, while 2015 will see The Wombles return to TV in the form of a new CGI series.
“For over 60 years, Britain’s children’s TV characters have brought cheer to generations of viewers," said Andrew Hammond, Royal Mail Stamps.
"More importantly it has presented us with a cast of characters that, like the memories of the programmes themselves, remain with us throughout our lives.
”It feels appropriate to celebrate all of these unforgettable characters on a set of very special stamps.”
The stamps are available from January 7th online at www.royalmail.com/childrenstv, by phone on 08457 641 641 and in 10,000 Post Offices throughout the UK.
