It was a series of brand collaborations and unique events held across Europe that marked Hello Kitty’s birthday on November 1st this year.
Forever a six year old girl, the slate of events took place to mark the iconic lifestyle brand and character’s 44th anniversary since her creation in 1974. The day is widely celebrated around the globe each year.
In London, the Hello Kitty x Pineapple collaboration with the capital’s dance institution launched. Founded by Debbie Moore OBE and celebrating its own 40 birthday, Pineapple Dance Studio hosted Hello Kitty’s birthday party to celebrate the girls and women’s collection launching in its Covent Garden store and on the Pineapple website.
Prior to the event, Moore said, “Hello Kitty is an iconic London character with a global reach, so I was very excited to partner with her to launch Pineapple’s 40 anniversary celebrations. I feel Hello Kitty embodies the feelings of positive joy and happiness that dancing gives, and I am very pleased that she has found a new home at Pineapple Dance Studios.”
Meanwhile in France, members of Hello Kitty Gang (the brand’s influencer collective) celebrated their favourite character’s birthday with an exclusive manicure by Paris-based Japanese nail artist Yuko by Yuko.
In Sweden, Sanrio’s partnership with sushi restaurant Sushi Yama on the new, nationwide Yama Kids menu launched with events in Gothenberg and Stockholm.
Families sampled the new menu, participated in activities and met Hello Kitty herself. The menu – which features Hello Kitty alongside Bad Badtz-Maru, another much-loved Sanrio character – has been rolled out across 36 restaurants. For more information, visit Sushi Yama’swebsite and Facebook page.
Sanrio and its partners are excited to look ahead to her 45 anniversary in 2019.
