Sesame Workshop partners with Korean design label Beyond the Closet

Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organisation behind Sesame Street, has partnered with the top Korean designer Taeyong Ko’s Beyond the Closet label for a line of co-branded apparel and accessories.

In a deal brokered by IMG, the new 35-piece clothing collection from Beyond the Closet will feature Sesame Street branded t-shirts, shirts, sweatshirts, shorts and sweatpants, all featuring characters, logos and patterns inspired by the hit brand. The range was unveiled at Seoul Fashion Week.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Beyond Closet as they re-interpret our feathered and furry characters in their own creative style,” said Will DePippo, director, Asia Pacific, Sesame Workshop. “As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we’re able to offer fans fun, unique ways to enjoy Sesame Street.”

Taeyong Ko, designer of Beyond Closet, added: “We have created witty graphic designs by combining our own signature features with Sesame Street’s brand identity, which is one of the most well-known TV shows in American history.

“This is a great example of reinterpreting the ‘Kidult look’ in this special capsule collection. This is just the first step of a global collaboration with Sesame Street and Beyond Closet, with the support of IMG.”

IMG is the global licensing representative for Beyond Closet, and the licensing representative for Sesame Street in Asia.

Miki Yamamoto, senior vice president of licensing, IMG commented: “We are delighted with the collaboration between Sesame Street and Beyond Closet. With Beyond Closet celebrating its 10-year anniversary last year, this powerful Korean fashion brand has developed a global fan base tapping into territories worldwide.

Sesame Street is such a fun, iconic brand and with Beyond Closet having such a strong celebrity following in Asia, we have no doubt that this collection will be hugely popular.”
