Sonic the Hedgehog returns to TV in new CG animated series

Iconic video game character Sonic the Hedgehog is returning to television in its first ever CG animated series next autumn.

Aimed at children aged six to 11, the new show will debut on Cartoon Network in the US and Canal J and Gulli in France with a global roll-out soon after.

Co-produced by Sega of America and Genao Productions, Sonic Boom follows the adventures of Sonic and his sidekick Tails and the computer game and animated series regulars, Dr Eggman, Knuckles and Amy.

The new series marks the fourth TV appearance of the eponymous hedgehog who has graced more than 70 video games worldwide.

"Sonic is the star of the Sega universe and the stage is now set for him to sine like never before," said Hiroyuki Miyazaki, Sega’s chief content officer for Sonic.

"By teaming up with world class partners in television animation like Cartoon Network, Genao Productions and Gulli, we’re ensuring that the Sonic legacy will be introduced to a new generation of children across the globe."

Sandrine Nguyen, managing director of Genao, added: "Genao is thrilled to collaborate with Sega on this amazing project and embark on new adventures with the fastest hedgehog in the world.

"It is so exciting to work on such a world-class brand."
