Square Enix unleashes Space Invaders trend guide

Space Invaders brand owners – Square Enix and Taito – have released a new style guide to allow licensees to develop fashion and trend product across different categories.

The first three themes – Coin-Op Classics, Pixellism and Point & Shoot – are available now, with further themes to be released in coming months. In addition, the guide includes packaging and brand guidelines to give a more cohesive presence at retail.

"Space Invaders is one of the leading pop culture icons, and we wanted to give consumers fresh, innovative and relevant product," said Janet Swallow, VP licensing worldwide at Square Enix.

"We commissioned design agency Watermelon Creative to look at future trends and together with our licensing agency CPLG, we identified three strong design directions.

"All the new art is recognisably Space Invaders but with a twist that we know will engage fans and broaden the appeal."

Steve Manners, EVP CPLG, added: "Space Invaders, one of the all time classic video games, is today an instantly recognised global brand. Taito and Square Enix have really embraced the imaginative and creative direction, which we know licensees, retailers and most importantly consumers will love."
