Disney has officially named the next entry to its space opera series as Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it has been announced via a post on the official Star Wars Twitter page.
The film will be written and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick, Breaking Bad, Looper) and produced by produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski. The film is slated for release 15th December 2017.
The title refers to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hammill), who was revealed to be the final remaining Jedi knight at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The title may suggest that Luke will play a larger role in the film than previously anticipated.
Carrie Fisher will also appear in the film, who finished filming before her death at the end of 2016.
