Ink reveals that an animated series based on popular gaming app is in development

Subway Surfers to cruise onto TV in new series

Popular gaming app Subway Surfers is making a leap from mobile entertainment to television, as Ink reveals a new animated series is in development.

The upcoming series is a European/Canadian co-production of 26 episodes, each starring the game’s popular characters, focusing on the themes of adventure and exploration.

Subway Surfers is one of the most popular apps in the world, topping 300 million downloads and garnering global interest in the licensing sector.

Ink director Claus Tømming said: "Subway Surfers lends itself absolutely perfectly to animation – it actually started life as a short cartoon film, so unlike many other games, it already has a rich back story.

"Combine this with the fact that it is a whole lot of fun and you have a TV hit on your hands.

"We are really excited to see the finished product and given there is such a large existing fan base, I am sure that it will create an enormous buzz when it hits the small screen."
