Sunny Side Up to launch merchandise lines inspired by famous lyrics

Sunny Side Up, a new licensing consultancy, has launched and will specialise in licensing famous lyrics for use on all types of consumer merchandise.

The firm is being launched by licensing industry veteran Michael Gottlieb, who started his licensing career at Warner Bros Consumer Products in the late 1980s.

“I am excited to begin this new chapter in my career with my own consultancy," said Gottlieb.

"It will build on my many years of experience and relationships in the music licensing and retail industries. Sunny Side Up will work closely with retailers and consumer goods companies to devise new products that can harness the powerful emotional pull of consumers’ familiarity with popular song lyrics."

Sunny Side Up’s first clients include the Music Sales Group and Imagem Music.

"These leading music publishers have back catalogues that contain a treasure trove of iconic lyrics just waiting to be mined," added Gottlieb.

"Lyrics can be featured on products to convey humour, express an uplifting sentiment, evoke nostalgia, or just add something special to an everyday item."

Gottleib first created the concept of merchandising well-known song lyrics back in 2005 when he was head of licensing at CCL. He licensed lyrics from several John Lennon and Paul McCartney songs to Mothercare for an award-winning range of ‘lyrical babywear’.

He then subsequently set up deals for other successful lyrical products, including mugs featuring Lennon & McCartney songs, an Abbey Road Board Game, a Puppy Love plush toy, and a range of lyrical greeting cards for Marks & Spencer.
