The side-scrolling, endless-runner videogame made its debut on iPhone and iPad yesterday.
The release marks Nintendo’s first major smartphone launch, following the success of Pokemon Go, a release that Nintendo held a minor stake in.
The app is free to try but requires a purchase of £7.99 or $9.99 in the US. The download costs 370MB and requires a constant online connection whilst playing, a decision that has courted some controversy.
This launch marks the first time Nintendo’s iconic mascot has appeared on a non-Nintendo branded device and will pave the way for future smartphone releases from the company, including a new entry to Animal Crossing series.
