All I want for Christmas… is the Mariah Carey Holiday Collection

Mariah Carey has launched her very first Holiday Collection, announcing the news with a commercial shared across her social accounts. The range will be available in the US at Target and Wal-Mart, while fans can shop the collection now at MariahCarey.com.

Developed in partnership with NECA, the range is inspired by Mariah’s record-breaking classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, and the popular song title, as well as animated versions of Mariah and her beloved dog Cha Cha, are incorporated throughout the designs.

“I’m not sure if you’re aware but Christmas is kind of my thing,” she says. “Putting together this line was so much fun because I added my own festive spin to traditional holiday merchandise. I worked on it all year long and now it’s finally time to share my holiday collection with you all. Merry Christmas!”

The collection ranges from cosy – including blankets, throw pillows, socks and slippers – to festive, with pet outfits, stockings, an ornament, a plush Mariah and Cha Cha, holiday cards and an extensive wrapping-paper kit.

Mariah Carey has consistently dominated the airwaves with 19 Billboard Hot 100 #1 Singles and more than 200 million albums sold to date. Mariah’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is not only a 6x platinum song, but also a worldwide phenomenon that is played year-round and even more heavily during the holiday season.

Rubies II and NECA launch pop culture arm Denuo Novo to specialise in collectables and cosplay

Rubies II LLC and NECA (National Entertainment Collectibles Assocation) have formed a new wholly-owned subsidiary to specialise in the creation of high-end collectables based on various pop culture franchises.

Called Denuo Novo LLC, the new business will combine the innovation and creative capabilities of NECA with Rubies’ supply chain and omni channel retailing capabilities to deliver a pop culture product line-up spanning replica costumes and props such as helmets and high end cosplay costumes.

Rubies has been making Halloween costumes for over 60 years while NECA has been a force in the licensed product and collectibles space for over 25 years. The creation of Denuo Novo allows the talented designers and product developers from both powerhouse companies to create a new destination for cosplay and replica costumes and high-end collectibles.

The newly formed Denuo Novo has made no secret of its mission to ‘be the single stop for premium quality costume replicas and high-end collectibles for generations to come.’ The business will kick start its journey with a range of product to support the Star Wars franchise, with more IP on the horizon.

The firm also plans to fulfill many of the existing orders of Star Wars replica and high-end collectable products originally prodcued by ANOVOS Productions.

“NECA has been a powerhouse in licensed collectibles for years and we’re incredibly excited to grow our presence in the  high-end collectibles space with replica costumes and helmets,” said Joel Weinshanker, managing partner of Rubies.

“Furthermore, we are thrilled to offer the quality and attention to detail that these discerning customers have  come to expect.”

Universal Monsters rise up in new NECA action figure partnership

National Entertainment Collectibles Association – NECA – has detailed plans for a full line of Universal Monsters action figures developed in close partnership with Universal Brand Development to capture the look of the horror world’s most iconic figures.

Frankenstein’s Monster will rise up this July, depicting the classic monster from the 1931 film Frankenstein as it celebrates its 90th anniversary this year. The sculpt will capture Boris Karloff’s poignant portrayal of the misunderstood monster in black and white. A colour version of the figure will follow.

Subsequent figures set for 2021 will include Lon Chaney Jr. as the Wolf Man from The Wolf Man (1941), Boris Karloff as the titular figure in The Mummy (1932), and Bela Lugosi as the legendary Count in Dracula (1931).

“We are proud to be working with NECA to include Bela Lugosi as Dracula as an Ultimate figure,” said Lynne Lugosi Sparks, CEO of Lugosi LLC.

“NECA’s attention to detail is amazing and we are happy to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Bela Lugosi’s iconic screen performance as Dracula with this figure.”

NECA’s Ultimate format is a favorite among collectors for its complete portrayal of a character with a wide array of alternate heads, hands, and accessories so that many iconic moments from the movie can be recreated. The fifth-panel packaging also allows collectors to remove and replace without damaging the packaging.

“As a lifelong fan of Universal Monsters, this is a dream come true,” said Randy Falk, NECA VP and senior director of product development.

“I’ve been collecting Universal Monsters toys since I was a kid. This line aims to create something hyper-realistic and ultra-detailed for people like me who grew up watching these amazing movies and have always longed for definitive versions.”

NECA founder Joel Weinshanker takes direct leadership of Rubie’s global business

Costume company Rubies has released the details of a deal that will see the company’s co-owner and managing partner, and founder of NECA, Joel Weinshanker, take over the direct oversight of the entire worldwide Rubie’s business.

In the new position, Weinshanker will look to harness the full power of over 1,000 Rubies employees around the world to maintain the firm’s position as a leader and innovator in the design, manufacture, and distribution of costumes globally.

The Rubie’s boss will rely on his many years of experience as the founder of the National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) – a leader in the licensed consumer products industry – to carry out the role.

Rubie’s is the largest costume designer, manufacturer, and distributor in the United States. Following a  recent asset purchase acquisition in October 2020, Rubie’s is now owned by Joel Weinshanker, funds  managed by Atalaya Capital Management LP, and members of the Beige family, which founded the  company in 1950.

The original Rubie’s Costume Company was founded 70 years ago by Rubin and Tillie Beige in Queens, New York. In addition to costumes for Easter, Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, Christmas, New Year’s Eve,  bachelorette parties, and more, its assortment of licenses includes Marvel Comics, Star Wars, Jurassic World, Star Trek, DC Comics, Barbie, Disney, Elvis Presley, Stranger Things, and more.

Rubie’s costumes are sold by retail partners across the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia.

Weinshanker’s  leadership at NECA has grown the company into a world-class retailer with permanent sections in Walmart and Target. Rubie’s currently has the capacity to distribute thousands of wholesale and over  100,000 B2C orders each day, and Weinshanker says he ‘looks forward to further enhancing Rubie’s  position as the only truly full-service global Halloween manufacturer and distributor in the world with even more omni-channel retailing capabilities.’

“The future remains bright at Rubie’s. We will continue to be the market leader in the Halloween, Dress Up and Carnival space. There is only once place like home for dress-up and cosplay – Rubie’s,” said  Weinshanker.
