Licensing International and Spielwarenmesse to launch joint licensing fair

Spielwarenmesse eG and Licensing International have announced a co-branded event that combines their skillsets to provide the German-speaking region with a licensing event of its own. Licensing-X Germany will offer the licensing sector across Germany, Austria and Switzerland a new platform and will coincide with Insights-X, the established stationery event, from 5 to 7 October 2022 at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre.

“With Licensing-X Germany, we are building our portfolio in a market that shows strong growth, that we are very familiar with, and that is active in many different sectors,” says Christian Ulrich, Spokesperson of the Executive Board, about the new launch by Spielwarenmesse eG. According to Licensing International, global sales of licensed goods and services amount to some US$ 293 billion, of which about US$ 11 billion are accounted for by the German market. This diverse spectrum includes product categories such as clothing, toys, fashion accessories, video games, home decoration, foods, footwear, cosmetics, sports and gifts.

Founded in 1985, Licensing International has had an active presence in Germany since 2001 through its LicenseMarket event. “Our primary mission is to grow awareness of the licensing industry worldwide, along with its many benefits,” says Maura J. Regan, President of Licensing International. “Licensing-X Germany will foster growth and expansion in Germany as we continue to align with key practitioners across the licensing community at large.”

Through this new licensing event, Spielwarenmesse eG is expanding its existing partnership with Licensing International. “Our shared objective is to be the leading platform for the licensing business in the German-speaking region,” says Peter Hollo, who is responsible for Licensing International’s activities in Germany.

Licensing-X Germany will build on the success of LicenseMarket and introduce new programming and networking opportunities across categories for the entire licensing industry. New trends in the market, including streaming services and NFTs, will be a focus as the event highlights licensing opportunities on the horizon.

Spielwarenmesse Summer Edition cancelled over prolonged pandemic problems

Organisers of the Nuremberg toy fair, Spielwarenmesse have confirmed the cancellation of the show’s first Summer Edition, a postponed edition of this year’s show that was scheduled to take place this July.

The fair had been moved from its traditional January slot in order to beat the restrictions in place at the hands of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Spielwarenmesse eG had pulled out all the stops to provide the industry with a suitable networking platform this year.

However, following the unrelenting uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus pandemic both on a national and international level, the organisers have decided to pull the plug on the event to to focus on Spielwarenmesse’s 2022 show.

The resolution was passed at the supervisory board meeting on March 25th.

Ernst Kick, CEO Spielwarenmesse eG, stated: “Initially, we received excellent feedback about the Summer Edition from both exhibitors and visitors. In recent weeks, however, the disappointingly slow improvement in the pandemic has been fuelling uncertainty across the industry.

“Our top priority remains the health and safety of all our participants.”

The lack of political perspective with regard to trade fairs has had a considerable impact on the ability of exhibition organisers to make firm plans and for international manufacturers and buyers to schedule and book their travel and accommodation.

‘Despite the measures already set in motion, it would be impossible to stage the Spielwarenmesse Summer Edition successfully without having the all-important run-up to the fair clearly mapped out,’ read a statement from the organisation.

The group has stated that from now on, all energy will be channeled into the regular Spielwarenmesse which is scheduled to run from February 2nd to 6th next year and will take place in conjunction with Spielwarenmesse Digital, a platform that – for the first time in the show’s history – will link the experience of the live show in Nuremberg with the virtual world.

“We’re receiving such a positive response from across the board. The market players cannot wait to get together again in February. And we’re very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Nuremberg for the 72nd Spielwarenmesse,” concluded Kick.

World of Toys will return to Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair 2021 with new safety measures

The 2021 Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair will once again play host to the popular international fair programme, World of Toys, created by Spielwarenmesse to make overseas trade fairs more accessible to companies. The international pavilion will be held at the Hong Kong show taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in January next year.

Given the challenges the world is currently facing, the closing date for registrations has been extended to September 30th 2020. Companies appearing at the pavilion will have direct access to business contacts in the region. They also receive support from Spielwarenmesse eG in the technical and organisational aspects of showing at the event.

A total of 27 exhibitors (2019: 25) from 13 countries (2019: 12) took part in this year’s Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair. To ensure that exhibitors can continue to enjoy the benefits of a successful fair, this year’s event will require more organisation due to the current coronavirus situation.

Additional measures will include the expansion of the meeting and hospitality area to enable exhibitors to hold business meetings with visitors whilst still observing social distancing rules.

Companies taking part in the World of Toys programme receive an Allround Package. The comprehensive services include, among others, a complete exhibition stand with basic fittings and furnishings, the selection and recommendation of service partners, announcements in the exhibition organiser’s publications as well as marketing activities in the relevant media. Participation in the World of Toys Pavilion will be subsidised in 2021 by the HKSAR Government.
