Silvergate Media announces broadcast launch of The Creature Cases

Silvergate Media, producer of global hit IP Octonauts, has announced plans for the broadcast launch of its new animated series, The Creature Cases, which follows the adventures of a unique detective duo who specialise in solving animal mysteries. The first season will debut on Netflix’s global streaming platform from 12 April, 2022.

Aimed at children aged 4-7 years, The Creature Cases is an original series created by head writer/producer Gabe Pulliam, with executive producers Adam Idelson and Kurt Mueller, EVP Creative Content, Silvergate Media. The action/comedy/detective series is animated by TeamTO, the award-winning French studio, which has a strong track record of animating hit children’s shows, including PJ Masks.

Sam Snow and Kit Casey are the lead agents of CLADE: the Covert League of Animal Detective Experts, who solve animal mysteries by exploring the habitats and behaviours of fascinating, sometimes bizarre creatures. Armed with top-secret intel from their miniature contacts, the Mice Squad, these brilliant animal sleuths travel a world populated exclusively by animals, solving mind-boggling animal mysteries that mix real zoological facts with wild detective action.

The Creature Cases invites young viewers to train a watchful eye on the many mysteries of the natural world,” says Kurt Mueller. “This show is X-Files for preschoolers, but instead of solving paranormal mysteries, Sam and Kit are solving strange but true animal mysteries. Each episode offers a super serving of odd zoological facts, imaginative gadgetry, and, well, the Mice Squad.  We look forward to introducing the show to audiences around the world this spring.”

“For our first collaboration with Silvergate Media, The Creature Cases was a very ambitious project,” adds Guillaume Hellouin, TeamTO President. “We had to push boundaries, once again, far beyond what we have done before. The diversity generated by the concept of discovering a new animal species in its native environment in each of the 40 episodes was a real challenge. But thanks to our fantastic team, combined with Silvergate’s talent, we managed to deliver an amazing show with a very cool design!”

TeamTo acquires TV, film, and licensing rights to fantastical graphic novel series Ninn

TeamTo has acquired the television, film, and licensing rights to NINN, a popular series of graphic novels by Jean-Michel Darlot and Johan Pilet, marking the content producer’s first foray into limited series animation for the seven years plus market.

NINN follows the stories of the young Parisian girl, Ninn, who has an unusual passion for the city’s underground, Paris Metro. Skateboarding through its tunnels is her favourite hobby, where she encounters all manner of fantastical happenings, such as swarms of butterflies visible only to herself, or an origami tiger that guides her on her search for the secrets of her past.

Despite her father’s concerns, Ninn and the tiger explore every dark tunnel and abandoned station, eager to uncover the clues and connections she has been searching for her whole life.

“As soon as I saw the first album, I immediately felt attracted to its graphic design style, which is both classic and fantastical,” said TeamTo executive producer, Corinne Kouper.

“I fell in love with the independent and free-thinking spirit of this little urban girl on the platform of the Paris Metro, visibly protected by her large and warm white tiger. I also liked the idea of Ninn roaming freely through the underground tunnels on her skateboard as if it were her bedroom, and her unique and touching relationship with her two dads.”

Mary Bredin, TeamTo creative development executive, added: “Stories that are grounded in locations are really appealing to me and this one is set in the Paris Metro – how surprising and intriguing is that?!

“Our hero’s story is at once unbelievable and yet so relatable. Adapting graphic novels is a bit of a trend right now but I think it is because they play in a darker, more dramatic space which provides a depth that isn’t normally present in a lot of animated series.”

Jean-Michel Darlot, author of Ninn, commented: “I have definitely been influenced by Miyazaki in finding the magical in the ordinary, and I have always been inspired by the Paris Metro. This is where the story comes from, the Metro is not just a means of transportation. It has its own personality and we portray it as a character in our story – a character with some secrets of its own.”

Published by boutique Belgian publisher Kennes Éditions, the series was written by Jean-Michel Darlot and illustrated by Belgian artist Johan Pilet. To date, four graphic novels have been distributed in France, Belgium and Canada, with over 100,000 copies sold in France; a fifth and sixth novel of the series are in production.

This is Iris partners with TeamTO to launch Mighty Mike to the UK licensing scene

The children’s entertainment company, TeamTO has joined forces with the licensing agency This Is Iris to launch Mighty Mike, ‘the world’s most licensable pug’ to the UK. Mighty Mike’s licensing career will be launched with a prominent platform on CITV and Cartoon Network’s Boomerang channels.

The new agreement follows a first publishing deal for the show in Italy with the high-end publishing outfit, Edizione Play Press for sticker, colouring, magic colouring, and activity books. Mighty Mike has already picked up momentum on a global licensing scale that includes partnerships with Surge Licensing in the US, France Televisions, and Uyoung in China.

“Mighty Mike is a show with great appeal, it’s packed with personality and stand out characters that engage the audience the minute the show starts,” said Sarah Lawrence, This is Iris. “The characters’ incredible photorealism and the non-stop comedy make this show ideal for a great range of products. We are delighted to be working with TeamTO on this exciting property and look forward to updating our partners on Mighty Mike’s potential and standout performance on CITV.”

Patricia de Wilde, TeamTO’s VP of marketing, added: “We are delighted to be working with the experienced and talented team at This is Iris. With Sarah’s uniquely creative and quality-driven approach to licensing, and great platforms on ITV and Boomerang, Mighty Mike could not be in better hands.

“Add to that the series’ combination of subtle and sophisticated humor inspired by the daily life of pets and  you have a perfect formula for success in the UK’s animal loving market.”

Mighty Mike stars a refined pug with sophisticated taste who longs for a quiet life but is forced to defend his house from a bunch of furry intruders and maddening pets. Raccoons, turtles and Fluffy the cat have a knack for showing up at the worst possible moment, dragging Mike into a series of outrageously funny twists and turns – making him miss yet another opportunity to impress Cindy, the neighbour’s elegant dog.

It’s an original TeamTO production with Canada’s Digital Dimension. TeamTO manages all Licensing rights worldwide and TV distribution in France, Germany and China, while CAKE distributes the TV series in all other territories.
