The BBC’s radio drama The Archers is getting its own steamy cookbook

It’s the book that nobody asked for and even fewer knew they wanted until now, but the Orion imprint, Seven Dials has just picked up the rights to launch a new cookbook based on the BBC radio drama, The Archers.

Written by the show’s scriptwriter Keri Davies, and licensed by Luigi Bonomi of Luigi Bonomi Associates, representing the BBC, The Archers Year of Food and Farming will hit shelves on September 26 this year.

The book will contain not only recipes as curated by the show’s characters, but present new stories, The Archers memories and a month by month guide to big events in the farming year.

“From the fabled kitchens of Ambridge come the recipes and gossip that fuel the nation’s favourite village,” reads the book’s synopsis. “Whether it’s Susan’s spicy chilli con carne on the hob or Helen’s dramatic tuna bake in the oven, Jill’s flapjacks stacked high or Alistair’s Goan fish curry hotting up suppertime, this celebration of Ambridge life will take fans even closer to the heart of every Archers home.”

Davies said: “It’s been great fun exploring the farming that underpins Ambridge, digging up past food-related stories and imagining some new ones. I hope Archers listeners will enjoy reading the book as much as I did writing it.”
