Tim Burton to direct live-action remake of Disney’s Dumbo

Oscar-nominated director Tim Burton has been tapped to helm Disney’s live-action reimagining of Dumbo.

The remake of the 1941 classic animated title will see Burton work from a screenplay by Transformers: Dark of the Moon’s Ehren Kruger.

Burton kicked off Disney’s current trend for reviving its animated catalogue in 2010 with the $1bn grossing Alice in Wonderland.

The new Dumbo feature is currently in the early stages of production, but is expected to combine CGI and live-action.

Dumbo tells the tale of a young circus elephant named Jumbo Jr who is teased over his large ears. However, with the help of a mouse, Dumbo learns that he can fly by using his ears as wings.

The movie will following other live-action Disney fairy tales hitting screens soon, including Cinderella which opens this Friday and Beauty and the Beast, now in pre-prodcution.
