Isle of Man Post Office releases set of eight postage stamps in celebration.

Tour de France stamps issued to mark 100th race

Widely regarded as the world’s biggest annual sportin event, the Tour de France will mark its 100th race this year – and the Isle of Man Post Office has issued a collection of stamps to mark the milestone.

The eight stamp collection features iconic images from the 100 races, including shots of Mark Cavendish (the first and so far only Manx rider to compete in the Tour, and has 24 stage wins) and Bradley Wiggins, who won the Tour outright in 2012.

The brand has received a huge boost in the UK after the announcement that the first stage of the race – the legendary ‘Grand Depart’ – will take place in Yorkshire in 2014.

"When the 2007 Grand Depart took place in London, one million people lined the streets and this time it will be even bigger as the huge success of British cycling has taken the popularity of the sport, and the Tour itself, to unprecedented levels," said Mo Diprose, senior commercial manager at CPLG Sport.

UK broadcast partner ITV4 dedicates over 120 hours of programming to the Tour each year, achieving a peak audience of two million viewers.

Diprose continued: "The Tour de France is not only one of the most iconic occasions in the sporting calendar, but also taps into the ever increasing popularity of cycling as a leisure pursuit.

"This gives us a very solid platform to build on in the UK and we will be looking to work with partners across a wide range of categories who complement the strong licensing programme that already exists."
