Turbo, the latest movie from DreamWorks Animation, has topped the UK box office in its first week on release, reports Screen.
The film, which follows a snail who gets the power of super speed after a freak accident, made £3.9m including £1.8m in previews.
This proved enough to top Sony’s Captain Phillips (£3m) and eOne’s Escape Plan (£958,092).
Turbo falls behind DreamWorks Animation’s other release this year The Croods, which made £5.4m in its first weekend before going on to make £26.2m.
In the DreamWorks Animation portfolio, Turbo is the ninth best opening for the studio, ahead of Chicken Run’s £3.8m and behind Monsters Vs Aliens’ £4.3m.
Next week, Turbo will be faced with animated competition in Sony’s Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 and Empire’s The Reef 2: High Tide.
