Turner and IMG’s ELeague expands Esports offering

Eleague, the Esports organisation borne from a partnership with Turner and IMG has partnered with Bandai-Namco to announce a new tournament for venerable fighting game Tekken.

The competition will feature 20 of the games’ top players, with each participant will competing on a four-person team in a single-elimination bracket. Each match will also include a number of one-on-one games.

Fans will be able to tune into the action on Twitch and TBS, or be a part of the live audience at the Eleague Arena at Turner’s Studios in Atlanta.

Tekken Team Takedown is set to kick off on March 3rd on Twitch, followed by a four-part feature series on TBS that will premiere on March 16.

Eleague also recently announced a partnership with US insurance giant Geico, to broaden the Eleague’s reach beyond professional gamers with new brackets for amateur players in various popular Esports titles.

“We’ve had this goal to launch an amateur series, and cultivate an amateur audience, for a while now, and Geico shared our vision,” Seth Ladetsky, senior vice president of sales at Turner Sports, told Bloomberg.

“Esports is fluid, and philosophically, we can’t be a one-trick pony,” added Craig Barry, executive vice president and chief content officer at Turner Sports. “We have to diversify and try as many things as possible.”

The amateur series is the first time ELeague has licensed its brand for any event. The tournaments will be operated and managed by Washington-based RedPeg Marketing, and ELeague will have a hands-on role in the digital broadcasts, which will stream on Twitch.
