UK box office enjoys highest-grossing year to date in 2015

The UK box office enjoyed its highest-grossing year to date in 2015.

Screen reports that the total gross across the UK & Ireland was £1.310bn, up 15.26 per cent on 2014’s £1.136bn and trumping 2012’s previous best of £1.179bn.

Spectre was named the highest-grossing film of the year, while in the top ten films, seven were sequels and two were book adaptations (Home and Fifty Shades of Grey), leaving Inside Out as the only original title to crack the list.

The top ten highest-grossing films at the UK and Ireland box office in 2015 were:

1. Spectre
2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
3. Jurassic World
4. Avengers: Age of Ultron
5. Minions
6. Inside Out
7. Fast & Furious 7
8. Fifty Shades of Grey
9. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2
10. Home

In terms of studio market share, Universal came out on top with 21.37 per cent, closely followed by Disney (19.98 per cent) and Fox (15.40 per cent).
