Ultimate Spider-Man becomes CITV’s top boys show

Ultimate Spider-Man has become the top-performing kids’ TV series with boys on the ITV Network to date.

Disney UK & Ireland made the announcement regarding its Marvel brand, which has been a top-performer with four to nine year old boys following its free-to-air launch on January 5th.

The series consists of 26 episodes and will be running throughout the year.

Ultimate Spider-Man averaged 248,000 viewers per week and is ranking in the top five children’s series on the ITV Network since January 2013.

Series one of Ultimate Spider-Man was originally broadcast in 2012 on Disney XD UK, where it became the top-rated animated title on the boy-focused, girl-inclusive channel, reaching 1.2 million individuals aged four and above.

Series two of Ultimate Spider-Man will debut on Disney XD this summer.

"The series has been a huge hit on Disney XD, so the success of Ultimate Spider-Man on CITV is fantastic news," commented Nigel Cook, Vice President, Marvel International.

"This and the upcoming second series on Disney XD will also provide a great opportunity at retail as there is now daily engagement from millions of our fans, who are already able to purchase fantastic new Ultimate Spider-Man toys from Hasbro and LEGO, and a wide range of other apparel and stationery products which are directly related to the storylines seen in the animated series."

Disney XD also features Marvel Universe – a dedicated programming block airing every Friday at 3.30pm.

"The success of Ultimate Spider-Man on Disney XD and now CITV will be good news to UK retailers," read a Disney statement.

"With new products based on the animated series such as the Spider-Cycle from Hasbro and LEGO set to follow the success of the award-winning Web Shooting Spider-Man action figure which proved a favourite Christmas gift for boys in 2012."
