Steven Universe, the first Cartoon Network show to be created solely by a woman, has enjoyed a successful debut in the US.
The show, created by Rebecca Sugar, premiered on Monday, November 4th as Cartoon Network’s most-watched series premiere to date in 2013 among kids aged six to 11, according to preliminary data from Nielsen Media Research.
Steven Universe also ranked number one in its 8 pm. time period with all kids aged two to 11, six to 11 and nine to 14 as well as with boys aged two to 11, six to 11 and nine to 14.
Sugar, a former storyboard artist on Adventure Time, made history with Steven Universe, as she is the first woman to create and run a show solo for Cartoon Network.
A woman has previously co-created a show for the network, as seen with Julie Cahill who co-created My Gym Partner’s a Monkey with Tim Cahill.
