US: The Republic of Tea to bring Downton Abbey inspired blends to retail

US beverage firm The Republic of Tea has secured the rights to produce a range of teas inspired by the popular ITV period drama series Downton Abbey.

In a deal brokered by the property’s North American licensing agency, Knockout Licensing, The Republic of Tea is launching a line of three blends to be served either hot or over a glass of ice.

Knockout Licensing’s co-president, Carole Postal, said: "From the moment we launched our licensing programme, we knew we had to do a great Downton Abbey tea – we knew the fans would be expecting it – so we are thrilled to have found the perfect partner in The Republic of Tea."

The line will include: English Rose Tea, described as a ruby-red infusion of rose, raspberry and hibiscus inspired by traditional British desserts; Downton Estate Blend, an Earl Grey black tea with bergamot orange oil and vanilla and Grantham Breakfast Blend, a full bodied, malty organic Assam black tea infused with organic ginger root.

Arriving in tins featuring popular downtown Abbey characters, each set contains 36 tea bags.

The Downton Estate line will be available exclusively from Cost Plus World Marketing from December and will retail at around $12.99.

English Rose Tea and the Grantham Breakfast Blend are both available from the Republic of Tea’s website,
