Bulldog Licensing Inc, the US arm of Bulldog Licensing Ltd, is exhibiting for the first time at this week’s Licensing Expo, having launched just over a year ago.
Brands on booth V181 include Garfield, the cartoon cat who is an instantly recognisable figure thanks to the comic strip first introduced in 1978 that is now featured in over 2,100 newspapers across the globe. The portly feline holds the Guinness World Record for the most syndicated cartoon strips and is responsible for book sales in excess of 135 million copies to date, two feature-length live-action films and three CGI animated movies. The fat cat also stars in The Garfield Show, currently airing on Cartoon Network in the US, and a strong social media presence, with over 15 million fans on Facebook.
The firm will also be showing the recently signed Talking Tom and Friends franchise from Outfit7 – which has recorded over 1.7 billion downloads since launch and boasts 230 million monthly active users. Music videos, animated shorts and a webisode series featuring the Talking Tom and Friends characters have been a huge hit on YouTube, underlining its incredible licensing potential. With a new television series recently announced, this is an exciting time for the Talking Tom and Friends brand and Bulldog will be building a comprehensive licensing programme across the US and Canada.
Also appearing on the Bulldog stand will be major gaming titles Saints Row and Dead Island. Saints Row is the franchise that follows a gang leader from the streets to the White House and has built up a massive fanbase, with nearly 1.5 million Facebook likes, whilst Dead Island consists of two games – Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide – that take the player into the nightmare of a zombie outbreak on a paradise holiday island. Both properties are produced by leading video game publisher Deep Silver and have huge potential across sectors such as apparel, accessories, books, posters and collectibles.
Hot new design brand It’s a Wildlife will also feature at the Bulldog stand. The property brings together fashion, style and humour through a blend of design and photography, all topped with clever and funny captions. The result is a truly unique property that is perfectly placed to take advantage of the growing presence of design brands. Initially targeting the youth fashion, stationery, wall art and accessories markets, It’s a Wild Life will roll out across US and UK retail from Q4 2014 and will build to a major presence through 2015.

Representatives of Bulldog’s UK office will also be at the Expo and, as well as discussing the European potential of Garfield and It’s A Wildlife, will be highlighting a series of major brands to the European licensing trade, including Plants vs. Zombies, Life, Monkey, Shoot and Bullseye.
