Figures released by Advanstar this morning show that last month’s Licensing Expo saw an overal five per cent increase in attendance over 2013 – while retailer and licensee attendance was also up YOY.
Over the three-day show, 15,702 licensing professionals attended the show – this year’s event featured 482 exhibiting companies in 218,872 net square feet, with an additional 100,000 square feet of conference and special event space used daily.
There was a 33 per cent increase in retail attendance and a 27 per cent increase in licensees attending. However, less licensors and service providers came to the show as attendees, mainly due to more licensors than before deciding to exhibit.
All product categories were strongly represented, from toys and games to automotive, mobile and home décor. Significant increases in attendance were seen for the second year in apparel and accessories (+14%), food and beverage (+12%) and publishing (+10%).
The show also saw attendance from China increase by 69 per cent and a 38 per cent rise in attendees from Japan.
"We focused our marketing efforts for this year’s show on bringing more retailers to Licensing Expo and we’re thrilled the hard work paid off," said Jessica Blue, VP of Licensing Expo. "So much business was being done and the feedback on the quality of the attendees was overwhelmingly positive.
"The Advanstar Licensing team has already started to build on this success for 2015."
More than 70 per cent of the 2014 floor space was rebooked for 2015 at the show.
