Activision Blizzard completes its $5.9bn acquisition of Candy Crush creator King Digital

Activision Blizzard has closed its $5.9 billion acquisition of the Candy Crush mobile game maker, King Digital.

The firm has said that the deal – closed today (Tuesday, February 23rd) – makes it the largest game network in the world with more than 500 million users.

The deal between the Candy Crush makers and the name behind hit titles including World of Warcraft and Call of Duty also represents one of the most successful acquisition prices for a European start up.

Activision Blizzard now estimates that the deal will take its 2016 revenue to $6.25 billion, reportds Tech Crunch.

“We see great opportunities to create new ways for audiences to experience their favourite franchises, from Candy Crush to World of Warcraft to Call of Duty and more, across mobile devices, consoles and personal computers,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard.

The London-based King Digital will continue to be lead by its current CEO Riccardo Zacconi, who has stated that he is ‘thrilled to now be a part of Activision Blizzard.”

He said: “I want to thank everyone at King for all of their hard work since we founded the company 13 years ago. We are exctied about the future as we continue developing more exciting games and explore new ways to serve our players and build on the greatest franchises in interactive entertainment.”
