The sequel to mobile-gaming most downloaded title Angry Birds is setting new records as Angry Birds 2 secures over 20 million downloads in it first week.

Only seven days after making its debut, the sequel title has seen Angry Birds fans raising their slingshots more than 1.4 billion times in total so far.

The game has since been catapulted to the number one iPhone or iPad download in more than 100 countries and is the most downloaded game on both iOS and Android platforms across the globe.

“When we were developing and testing Angry Birds 2, we had good reason to believe we were on to a good thing, but the enormous groundswell of enthusiasm for the game from loyal fans and casual newcomers alike has been humbling,” said Patrick Liu, creative director.

“It took the first Angry Birds game more than nine months to reach this many players, and we thank all our fans for growing the flock so quickly.”

Chief commercial officer, Alex Lambeek has stated that the game has helped the brand “gain a new foothold in China.”

“A new generation of Chinese gamers is getting to know the angry feathered flock, and we see a bright future together with Kunlun, one of the Chinese game industry’s largest and most important players.”
