Mobile apps move into apparel, plush, home décor and collectables categories.

Beanstalk has begun to grow the licensing programme for the Talking Friends collection of mobile apps.

The push will see characters such as Talking Tom Cat, Talking Ben the Dog and Talking Gina the Giraffe expand across multiple categories including apparel, accessories, footwear, sleepwear, home décor, collectables and plush.

Additional products will debut in 2012, including back to school, social expression and gift and novelty items.

Licensees so far signed up include Smith & Brooks, Belltex, Dragon-I, Sound N Light, Zagwear, C-Life and Berkshire Fashions among others.

"We've been overwhelmed with interest from potential licensees and retailers this year," said Michael Stone, CEO of Beanstalk. "Global expansion of consumer products such as this is evidence that there is an insatiable appetite for more interaction with these characters. Fans should be excited knowing creative, smart and fun products are on the horizon."

Paul Baldwin, CMO of brand owner Outfit 7, added: "We are creating not only a global mainstream brand but a global entertainment network."

The Talking Friends franchise has so far notched up over 250 million downloads worldwide.
