EA's record breaking Plants vs Zombies 2 nears 25 million downloads worldwide

New mobile app takes top spot in the App Store in 137 countries; Record breaking launch for EA's mobile game.

Electronics Arts is celebrating its biggest mobile game launch in the firm's history as Plants vs Zombies 2 nears 25 million downloads worldwide.

The highly anticipated sequel to PopCap's Plants vs Zombies launched on August 15th, initially available for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Represented by Bulldog Licensing, the new app has now been downloaded nearly 25 million times by fans from across the globe, achieving one of the biggest opening weekends on the App Store for a mobile game title.

Furthermore, day one downloads nearly doubled EA's previous mobile record, taking top position in the App Store in 137 countries after only five days.

Tony Leamer, franchise business director for Plants vs zombies, said: "we are grateful and delighted with the incredible reception Plants vs Zombies 2 has received from consumers around the globe.

"We certainly had high hopes for the game, but to see fans playing the game so quickly and in such huge numbers is truly amazing."

Plants vs Zombies 2 takes players through different historical eras to meet and defeat zombies from different time periods.

The app is available in seven different languages with additional languages joining soon.
