Mario is to play a starring role in the planned new Nintendo themed attractions at Universal Studios as the resort details its plans to bring the videogame maker’s cast of characters to its Orlando and Japan resorts.
Nintendo’s popular games, characters and worlds will now be featured in new attractions at Universal theme parks across the two territories, marking a first for the company’s portfolio of characters that includes Mario and Donkey Kong.
Sankei News reports that 40bn Yen is being invested in the project that will see Mario take the starring role in a sizeable portion of the park highlighted in red in the map below.
The current Universal Studios Japan attractions are highlighted in green.
An official release issued last year stated that: ‘The immersive experiences will include major attractions at Universal’s theme parks and will feature Nintendo’s most famous characters and games,’ and that the Universal theme parks will create ‘spectacular, dedicated experiences based on Nintendo’s wildly popular games, characters and worlds.’
The Nintendo themed area is scheduled to be completed by 2020.
