DHX Media has struck new deals that will take its portfolio of popular children's characters to Canada.

The independent producer, distributor and licensor of children's favourites such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Inspector Gadget, has locked down deals across multiple platforms.

In a deal with mobile content platform provider BlackBerry, DHX has signed over 1,000 episodes of programming which will be available across the UK, US and Canada.

Meanwhile, Berkshire Axis Media Distribution in Canada has signed a six-year home entertainment deal for a range of titles including Mona the Vampire and Are you Afraid of the Dark?

Bam will be releasing these titles in both French and English.

Canadian Broadcaster CBC has signed a renewal for three seasons of the pre-school stop-motion animation Poko.

Josh Scherba, SVP of Distribution at DHX Media, said: "Canada remains a key territory for DHX and it's great that long-term partners such as CBC continue to support our brands.

"We are also adapting to the changing trends in audience consumption securing deals with non-traditional outlets like BlackBerry along with traditional home entertainment partners like Bam."
