Grand Theft Auto video game brand owner Take-Two has acquired the WWE licence.

Polygon states that Take-Two reached a joint agreement with WWE, now-defunct game publisher THQ and Japanese developer Yuke’s, as reported by MCV.

The WWE has allegedly agreed to waive a "significant" chunk of money it was owed by THQ, which is thought to be around $45m. Yuke’s has also agreed to write off the $15m it was owed.

Back catalogue sales of THQ’s WWE games will stop, while WWE will receive around $650,000 from the ongoing sale of THQ.

"At this time, the agreement is pending court approval and we anticipate that it will be finalised shortly,” a Take-Two statement confirmed. “We are very excited about the potential of this agreement and will have more to share at the appropriate time."
