The Angry Birds Movie soars into second place at UK box office

The app game adaptation was pipped to the top spot by Captain America: Civil War.

Captain America: Civil War has enjoyed a third week in the number one spot of the UK box office, just ahead of The Angry Birds Movie.

Civil War added £2.8m to bring its total to £32.15m after 17 days in cinemas. Screen reports that it is now the fourth-biggest Marvel movie in the UK, behind Iron Man 3’s £37m.

Elsewhere, Sony's The Angry Birds Movie debuted in second place at the UK box office with £2.15m.

Internationally, the film grossed $43 million in its first weekend, landing in the number one spot in 37 markets and setting a record May opening for an original animated film.

Next weekend, The Angry Birds Movie opens in the United States, China and South Korea.
