The US video-on-demand entertainment studio, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment has launched a new unit focused on the ownership, development, and production of new entertainment franchises, called Landmark Studio Group.
Landmark will be launched in partnership with the 30-year entertainment industry veteran, David Ozer, who will serve as the operation’s CEO. In addition to Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, Cole Strategic Partners has committed funding to Landmark.
Landmark will be headquartered in New York with offices in Los Angeles and will develop, produce, distribute and own all of the intellectual property it creates. It aims to ‘build a valuable library of entertainment IP and franchises.
The studio will be independent, having the ability to sell its content to any network or platform, while also developing and producing original content for Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment’s recently acquired Crackle, a leading ad-supported VOD network. Landmark will control all worldwide rights and will distribute through Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment’s Screen Media division.
Already the firm has several television and film projects in development, including The Fix, The History of Gangster Rap, and Safehaven – a supernatural horror series based on a graphic novel about a comic book artist whose drawings come to life to haunt her.
Landmark will also be producing various stand-up comedy specials and animated series.
