Warner Bros. Consumer Products makes play for Korean market with new licensing agent

Warner Bros. Consumer Products is making a play for the Korean market with the appointment of a new licensing agent in CJ ENM for the region.

According to a press release from the firm, the Korean company has been entrusted with establishing a licensing business for WBCP’s portfolio of brands, including classic animation franchises such as Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry and Scooby Doo.

It also includes DC franchises such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the Justice League as well as the Wizarding World brand that encompasses Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts.

The licensing agent will look to build partnerships around fashion, home, toys and other merchandise, as well as promotion and publishing.

“Through the strong reach of CJ ENM in the Korea market, we will be able to bring our world-renowned brands and products to local fans and consumers,” said Bianca Lee, managing director of Warner Bros. COnsumer Products, Asia.

Wizarding World toys will be available in the territory by the end of this year, with DC products on the way early next year.

“With CJ ENM’s licenisng experience and strong network in Korea, coupled with WBCP’s powerful global brands, we are confident that this relationship will bring great synergies which will help us expand the domestic licensing market, and inject new excitement and fun to the local retail scene,” said Park Hyun-il, head of animation content business at CJ ENM.

In Asia, Warner’s DC franchise is finding itself supercharged by the China release of Aquaman. The film has taken $94.1 million in the first three days of release in the country.
