Warner Bros. faces Bethesda lawsuit over Westworld and Fallout Shelter mobile game similarities

A mere matter of hours following the release of its Westworld mobile game last week, Warner Bros. was landed in hot water with developer Bethesda for alleged copyright infringement of its own mobile title Fallout Shelter.

The outfit has filed a lawsuit against Warner on the grounds that its Westworld, based on the show of the same name, is a ‘blatant rip-off’ of the Bethesda title that has recently made the move from mobile to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

According to Bethesda, the new Westworld game “has the same or highly similar game design, art style, animations, features and other gameplay elements.”

The suit, filed in a Marlyand District Court on Thursday, accuses Warner Bros. and Behaviour Interactive – co-developers of the game – of copyright infringement, breach of contract, and misappropriating trade secrets.

Bethesda is suing for damages, but no amount has been specified.

It is claimed that Westworld uses the same code from Fallout Shelter, noting a bug found in an early version of Fallout Shelter was also found in Westworld.
