Warner Bros. has kicked off a new programme of investment in skills and training for the UK’s creative industries.
Launching in September 2013, Warner Bros. Creative Talent will ‘support the next generation of UK creative industries’ staff’. There will be scholarships attached to work placements and mentoring, apprenticeships and training courses, giving young people industry experience across Warner Bros.’ UK film, TV, games and theatre operations.
The news comes after film and TV production facility Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, was inaugurated by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke (pictured) and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
The nationwide investment encompasses 12 scholarships at higher education institutions including the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), the National Film & Television School, University of the Arts London, Glasgow Caledonian University, Ravensbourne and University of Hertfordshire, and courses at other institutions.
There will be three Prince William Scholarships in Film, Television and Games in partnership with BAFTA, six apprenticeships with roles ranging from set-lighting to post-production, two trainee positions on every Warner Bros. film production in the UK and 25 year-long training course places for young people at inclusive theatre company Chickenshed.
There will also be 20 work experience places for schools local to Warner Bros.’ London HQ, and five work placements on the upcoming West End musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The most talented students will receive an additional three-month placement.
Warner Bros. and Film Nation UK will work together "to inspire and educate" thousands of school children around the country about the film industry.
There has been recent investment in Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, TV production company Shed Media, video games companies Rocksteady Studios and TT Games, in Soho post-production house De Lane Lea, upcoming West End musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and in Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.
Warner Bros. has become the single largest contributor to Creative Skillset’s Skills Investment Fund (SIF), investing over a £1 million over the last nine years and hosting educational classes reaching 25,000 school children every year at the Harry Potter visitor attraction.
Each year, Warner Bros. runs an intern programme for over 40 students, who spend a paid year with the company during their sandwich degree courses.

Alan Rickman, actor and vice chairman at the RADA, added: "The long line of RADA graduates who have appeared in Warner Bros. productions over the years inspired a partnership that has gone on to be nothing short of transformative in the way that it has allowed the Academy to develop its film, TV and radio division and help prepare students for their future careers."
